It’s more than just a coffee.
It’s more than just a cake.
It’s more than just a room.
It’s more than just a building.
This ministry changes the definition of hospitality. It changes the definition from a “service industry” to a way of life. There are multiple stories in the Bible of Jesus showing hospitality to his disciples. John 21:12-13 “’Now come and have some breakfast!’ Jesus said. None of the disciples dared to ask him, ‘who are you?’ They knew it was the Lord. Then Jesus served them the bread and the fish.”
Even in Romans 12:31, “When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.”
God has been showing me more stories throughout the Bible that relate to hospitality and it’s importance. Jesus came down to Earth to show us what a relationship with God was, and that includes loving who and what God loves. I am challenged by this and the ways that I serve. I want to love others the way Jesus did.
So as I’m a part of this ministry in YWAM Perth, there is greater value to what we do.
It’s more than just a coffee. I serve in the café on the main building of our organization. It’s not just about the coffee, but it’s about loving the people that come. We want to make them feel loved and welcomed with more than a cup of coffee. We want their coffee to be the best quality, we want to give them a smile and know their name, we want it to be an inviting atmosphere where they come and feel uplifted.
It’s more than just a cake. We have the privilege of celebrating hundreds of birthdays a year. We have the opportunity to make the individual feel celebrated and loved. We are able to celebrate the day God brought them into this world and into our lives.
It’s more than just a room. I am in charge of the general guests that want to come stay with us. What a blessing it is! I get to communicate with people who are interested in staying with us, and find a place for them to rest. We as a team set up the room to make it clean and comfortable for our family coming to stay. It gives the opportunity to be a friend to those who come and stay in our home.
It’s more than just a building. In our ministry, we serve the organization and help serve in different areas. We help with laundry, so things can be clean and ready to clean. We help in the kitchen, preparing and cooking food for hundreds of people to be able to eat together. There are so many things we do as a team, but also as an individual where we get to communicate love through our actions and heart.
So I’m thankful for the ways I can serve God by serving others.
